Fishing hooks are the key to fishing, so the selection and maintenance of fishing hooks are extremely important.

① Selecting hooks according to the type of fish: Different types of fish require different fishing hooks. ② Selecting hooks according to the size of the fish: You can use a small hook to catch a big fish, but you cannot use a large hook to catch a small fish. Therefore, the basic principle of selecting hooks is that small hooks should be preferred over large ones. However, you should also choose hooks according to the fish situation and water conditions.

③ Selecting hooks according to fishing gear: Different fishing gear requires different hooks. For hand-held fishing, it is better to use a hook with the hook tip parallel to the hook handle; for sea fishing and trolling, it is better to use a hook with a short handle and the hook tip tilted inward. This kind of hook is easy to swallow and not easy to get off the hook.

② Hook tip: It must be sharp. You can touch the hook tip gently with your hand. If it feels sticky, it means it is sharp.

③ Barb: The position of the barb should be close to the hook tip, and the angle should be 25°-30°. If the barb is too low, too long, or too wide, it is not easy to hook the fish; otherwise, it is easy to get off the hook.

④ Hook handle: The size and thickness of the hook handle should be appropriate. If it is too small, the hook binding line is easy to loosen; if it is too thin, the hook binding line is easy to cut.

⑤ Strength and toughness: Pinch the hook tip with your hand and push and pull it inward and outward. If the hook is found to be broken or bent and deformed, it should be discarded.
